About the event:

Love Local is hosting a market at 75 Harrington Street as part of the Open Design Cape Town 2017 programme.
This would be a family-friendly market that is inclusive of food, drinks, music and amazing local vendors. We
plan to, where possible, encourage the traders to make product at their stalls while they sell, allowing the
visitor a peek into their production processes.

Love Local creates platforms for local interaction. We create and facilitate events for emerging creative businesses to showcase and trade, with particular focus on previously disadvantaged groups. More than just a market place, the platform creates a place for local artisans and clientele to interact. With live music, food and beverageS, the event is targeted at
young and older working adults who love everything quality and proudly local.

Love Local creates platforms for local interaction. It was started by Mwabi Motaung, who came up with an idea for a market that supports emerging creative businesses by creating platforms in which their products and culture take centre stage and are celebrated.

The Love Local Market is based in Cape Town and currently pops up at different venues in Cape Town, the last venue being 75 Harrington. The market is mobile and has often taken place at different venues, allowing people in different areas of the province to experience the event and exposing our traders to more than one buyer demographic. The company is BEE accredited and owned a 100% by a black female.

Uncompromisingly, over 60% of the vendors and acts at the market fall under the previously disadvantaged bracket. The market exists primarily for creative businesses that are struggling to access markets around Cape Town, because they can’t afford them or simply because access is stringent. Those that do get access have often complained about being side-lined and not receiving the support they require. The Love Local Market provides both a beautiful platform to trade on and marketing and public relations support.

In June 2017 Love Local has been in existence for approximately one year. In that period, eight markets have been planned and implemented, the largest hosting over 30 emerging local vendors. Our mission remains to create and facilitate platforms for emerging creative businesses to showcase and trade, with particular focus on previously disadvantaged groups. A market is one way of doing that.
