About the event:
Designers of Change presents-
A discussion and workshop which focuses on “where the ideas come from…”, raising the importance of Ethics in Design, especially in social projects.
When thinking about Design in Cape Town, we need to move away from the commodification of Design- ie. selling dreams without commitment to the Design process. There is an increasing demand to address many factors in order to achieve an open process and desired outcomes that are suitable: Who are the Designers? Where do the models and methods come from? What was the context in which they were created? Is there room for public participation? Are we consistent in our values throughout the whole project?
Designers of Change invites you to explore your own and other people’s values, take a look at what we should expect from Design in Cape Town going forward, and think about ways to get involved with community-based Design. With the help of guest speakers, discussions and activities we would love for you to learn about and share your experiences on issues such as:
– Challenges for Design in Cape Town
– Ways to improve Design methods for Ethical needs
– Doing our best for Individuals and Communities
– The role of Language(s)
– Changing power structures and sharing budgetary control through Innovative finance and creating safe fail spaces
– And many more!
